Day 1 of the Angkor Three-Day Tour
On the first day you will see the most famous iconic temples, which will give you a first unforgettable impression of the Khmer empire. The architectural variety combined with different landscapes make each cultural site unique. The stone figures and paintings give an insight into the size and cultural diversity of the Khmer Empire. The plan for the first day looks as following:
☀️
Start after breakfast or for sunrise over Angkor Wat
Pick-up at your hotel: Choose your pick-up time after breakfast or an early departure between 4:30 and 05:00 to experience the unforgettable sunrise in front of Angkor Wat, colorfully reflecting the world-famous temple complex in the water ponds in front. The entire archaeological site covers over 400 km² / 154 sq miles and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992.
Return to hotel for breakfast (optional for the sunrise option): After witnessing the stunning colors of the sunrise reflecting in the lakes in front of the unique architectural structures of Angkor Wat, you can decide whether to return to your hotel for breakfast or have our guide recommend a restaurant or local food stall within Angkor Park.
🏛️
Explore Angkor Thom - former capital of the Khmer Empire
After breakfast, our driver will take the group to the South Gate of Angkor Thom. It is the most beautiful and best-preserved of the five entrances to Angkor Thom, the largest complex in the Angkor Park. The royal city of Angkor Thom was built from the late 12th to the early 13th century and includes several famous and unique landmarks.
Bayon Temple: This is the main temple of King Jayavarman VII. It is famous for its 37 towers adorned with sculptural decorations and the impressive stone faces, which is why it is also called the “Temple of the Smiling Faces.”
Elephant Terrace: As the name suggests, this site consists of three platforms surrounded by elephants carved in stone, depicting an elephant hunt. The intricate details are simply captivating.
Terrace of the Leprosy King: It is considered one of the most beautiful Khmer artworks. The name comes from King Yasovarman I, who built the first city of Angkor and died of leprosy. The relief is very detailed and extremely well preserved.
Pyramid Temple of Phimeanakas: The royal temple is one of the smallest temples of Angkor. At the top of the 12-meter-high pyramid you have a great view of the entire archaeological site of Angkor Thom.
🍽️
Lunch break in Angkor Park
You can decide where you want lunch and whether you prefer local food or international cuisine. Grilled seafood, a Khmer curry or a steak with chips, it’s your choice. We also offer prearranged lunch options, a luxury lunch experience or a local menu. You can book the lunch option during the checkout process.
🌳
Jungle Temple Ta Prohm, famous from the movies Tomb Raider & Indiana Jones
Before you visit the most famous temple complex called Angkor Wat, our driver will take you to Ta Prohm. The “Jungle Temple”, built by Jayavarman VII in honor of his mother, was almost swallowed by the jungle. The impressive Bayon architecture merges with the tropical forest. The unforgettable scenery was made famous by the movie “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” starring Angelina Jolie as well as the Indiana Jones movies. An unforgettable sight as nature incorporates a former civilization. Definitively a highlight of the first day of your trip in Angkor.
💎
Ta Nei – Jungle Temple off the Beaten Track
This small temple is located in a quiet forest area, away from the crowds. Built by King Jayavarman VII, it is partly overgrown by jungle, giving an atmospheric, mysterious feel. The intricate carvings and small stone statues allow visitors to explore a hidden corner of Angkor, making it ideal for photography and reflection. Its secluded location ensures a calm and personal experience.
🛕
Angkor Wat
A short drive will take you to Angkor Wat, the most famous temple in historic Angkor Park. Angkor Wat with its pagoda was once the center of the mighty Khmer kingdom. You can climb the steep steps up to the tower and have a magnificent view over the World Heritage Site of Angkor. Your guide will tell you exciting stories of the Khmer Empire and its kings of long ago. One thing is certain, you will not get bored. Maybe your feet will get a bit tired, but the UNESCO World Heritage Site is worth the effort.
🌇
Optionally: Sunset
If you choose the sunset option, you can enjoy the breathtaking sunset at Phnom Bakheng temple mountain, the Pre Rup pyramid temple, or the Srah Srang reservoir. Each location offers a unique atmosphere to reflect on the beautiful memories of your unforgettable day in Angkor.
🏨
Drop-off at the hotel
After a day immersed in the wonders of Angkor’s temples, our driver will bring you back to your hotel feeling relaxed and inspired.

Day 2 of the Angkor Three-Day Tour – Hidden Gems of Angkor Park Main Area
On the second day we explore the hidden gems of Angkor Park’s main area. These temples are less visited and offer an off-the-beaten-track experience combined with iconic sights:
☀️
Pickup between 07:30 and 10:30am or sunrise
Your guide will pick you up at your hotel in Siem Reap. Early risers may opt for sunrise to start the day with soft morning light over the temples. Enjoy the peaceful drive to the main Angkor area and smaller temples away from the usual tourist route.
🗼
East Mebon – Temple of Five Towers
East Mebon was constructed in the 10th century and sits on an island in the center of the now dry East Baray reservoir. The temple features five towers in a quincunx layout and is decorated with sculpted elephants and lions at the corners. Its elevated position gives excellent views over the surrounding area, and the detailed carvings reveal a remarkable example of Khmer artistry from the pre-Angkor Wat era.
🏝️
Neak Pean – Artificial Island Temple
Neak Pean is a small, serene Buddhist temple situated on an artificial island in the middle of a circular reservoir. Designed as a symbolic representation of Anavatapta, a mythical healing lake, it was intended for spiritual purification. Visitors can admire the symmetrical layout, the central sanctuary, and the small stone lions that guard the causeways connecting the temple to the shore.
🌳
Ta Som – Jungle Temple
Ta Som is a modest yet captivating temple built by Jayavarman VII in the late 12th century. Its most iconic feature is the massive fig tree growing over the eastern gopura (gateway). The moss-covered stones and intricate carvings create a picturesque, tranquil environment. Less visited than Ta Prohm, Ta Som offers a quiet, reflective experience amidst the jungle.
⚔️
Preah Khan – Temple of the Royal Sword
Preah Khan was built by King Jayavarman VII to honor his father and served as a Buddhist monastery and educational center. The extensive temple complex features long corridors, intricately carved lintels, and numerous statues. Its partially ruined and overgrown state gives it a romantic, atmospheric quality. Walking through Preah Khan, visitors feel the scale and history of the Khmer Empire.
🌇
Optional: Sunset
End your day on a magical note by watching the sun set over the ancient temples of Angkor. Choose the iconic hilltop views of Phnom Bakheng, the stunning brick towers of Pre Rup, or the serene lakeside atmosphere of Srah Srang—each offering a unique and unforgettable sunset experience filled with golden light, peaceful scenery, and beautiful photo opportunities.
🏨
Drop-off at the hotel
After exploring the hidden gems of Angkor Park, your second day concludes with a serene and memorable experience of lesser-known Khmer temples.

Day 3 of the Angkor Three-Day Tour – Remote Wonders of Angkor & Kulen Mountain
On day three we explore the remote wonders of Angkor and the Khmer Empire. These are up to 60 km/37 mi from Siem Reap and are scattered in Kulen National Park beyond the main tourist routes, making your third day a unique experience:
☀️
Start after breakfast
Start your adventure to the remote sights of Angkor after breakfast. Your guide will pick you up between 07:30 and 08:30am. Sunrise option available for early risers.
🅰️
Option A: Kbal Spean – Forest River with Hindu carvings
Kbal Spean is located on a river in the jungle about 60 km/37 mi from the main complex of Angkor. It is often referred to as ‘The River of a Thousand Lingas’. Lingas are fertility symbols in Hindu culture. The walk along the river takes about 30 minutes to see the intricate carvings and nearby waterfall.
🅱️
Option B: Sacred Kulen Mountain Nationalpark & Waterfalls
Discover Phnom Kulen National Park, the sacred mountain where the Khmer Empire was born in 802 A.D. Visit the Reclining Buddha at Preah Ang Thom, riverbed carvings, and enjoy a swim at the scenic Kulen Waterfall. Explore remnants of Mahendraparvata, the ancient capital that predates Angkor Wat.
👸
Banteay Srei – The Pink Sandstone Lady Temple
Banteay Srei is located 20 km/12.5 mi from the main complex of Angkor. Known for its exquisite pink sandstone carvings, the temple was built by a minister rather than a king. It offers an intimate insight into Khmer culture and artistry.
🗿
Optional: Phnom Bok & optional sunset
Phnom Bok is a small hill with a 10th-century temple at the summit. A short climb rewards visitors with panoramic views over the Angkor plains, East Baray, and surrounding rice fields. This location is ideal for photography and sunset watching. Alternatively, you can end the day at Srah Srang reservoir for a peaceful sunset with reflections of the temples in the water.
